#tendaychallenge - 9. Degree show

aphillipsarts

For my final project as an undergraduate on the Fine Art: Contemporary Media Ba(Hons) at the University of South Wales in Newport, I exhibited two wide format drawings, and a performance video.

This was not long after I had begun to create landscape drawings, and the performance piece was the last I made. Filmed at the stunning Rhossili beach, the performance involved the simple act of digging a hole in the sand. I remember that at one point a man walking his dog came over as I was filming, and asked what I was doing. I left this in the final cut, because viewed at a distance it added an interesting element. It reminded me of something like Waiting For Godot, with the stark quality of the imagery being its own best explanation.
